Durham program providing stipend to ex-offenders sees success

DURHAM, NC - Today, the initial spending and demographic results of Excel, Durham’s guaranteed income pilot were rolled out as part of a major, nationwide step forward for the guaranteed income movement.

Durham Neighbors, StepUp Durham, and the City of Durham on August 20th, 10am - 1pm, at Ninth Street Bakery gathered and shared food, fun, and stories of guaranteed income in our city.

Tyler Brackfield is one of the participants who was selected for the program. While Brackfield said he is on the right track now as he is working for a company that specializes in electrical automation, he said it wasn’t always been this way.

“I enjoy having the opportunity to meet individuals from different backgrounds facing similar challenges as myself. It feels good to know that I’m not alone.”
