Durham’s Guaranteed Income Program. 109 formerly-incarcerated individuals were randomly selected by the Center for Guaranteed Income in Pennsylvania to receive an unconditional, cash transfer of $600 per month. The pilot lasted one year.
We are pleased to share the outcomes of Excel, North Carolina's first guaranteed income pilot.
Through this work, we saw the success in providing a supplement, not a handout, to an underinvested community. This report also exposes the gaps and brokenness that exist in our systems and well-resourced city. We are proud that Durham is in the national conversation around what it looks like for EVERYONE to thrive, and we are honored that StepUp Durham is part of that story.
