“I’ve learned how important it is to get help from others while transitioning back into society. StepUp Durham helped me get a resume put together, taught me how to write a cover letter, and put me in touch with employers looking for workers.”

Ron came to us from Restorative Transitions back in May of 2022. He was hired by Construction Cleaners from a mock interview during ENER-G. Due to Ron's physical health he was not able to physically do the labor required by the position. However, the employer liked him so much and appreciated the effort Ron put forth so she asked if a BUILD Apprenticeship could be provided for Ron to do more administrative work.

Shortly after the apprenticeship ended Ron got a host position with Cracker Barrel in April of 2023. Ron also then entered Step2. Once he completed the first phase, Ron applied for a Wheels for Hope car. Ron completed all 4 phases of Step2. It was around this time that Ron got his Wheels for Hope car. He has passed his one year anniversary at Cracker Barrel. He also connected with a nutritionist and doctor and has lost close to 100lbs!

His long term goals include keeping his own bills paid, and being able to help others who are in need by providing supports such as transportation.

We’re excited to launch our 2024 Fall Campaign! Generous donors Phil Spiro and Linda Raftery will match up to $35,000 in new, increased, or renewed donations, PLUS one year’s worth of any new, recurring monthly gifts. For example, if a donor signed up to give $100/month, $1,200 would count toward the match!
