Support Second Chance Employment in North Carolina

At StepUp Durham, we're proud to spotlight the incredible work of our Board Vice-Chair and IMPACT Committee Co-chair, Mr. Dominique Grimes-Medlin (he/him). As an HR/DEIB Consultant, Dominique is passionate about creating equitable opportunities for all, especially for those who need a second chance.

In collaboration with TSHRM, and NCSHRM, Dominique has spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative: a statewide directory of 2nd Chance Employers. This effort is designed to connect justice-involved individuals with employers who are open to giving them a fair shot at re-entering the workforce.

Are You a 2nd Chance Employer?

If your hiring practices allow flexibility and you believe in offering opportunities to those with criminal records, then you’re already part of the solution.

Why Is This Important?

With 1 in 4 North Carolinians having a criminal record, limited employment opportunities affect nearly 2.1 million people. Despite partnerships with 2nd Chance Employers, there is often a lack of visibility into their actual hiring practices. This directory aims to change that, ensuring justice-involved individuals have clear pathways to meaningful work.

How Can You Help?

We need your support to make this initiative a success. If you know of any employers who are 2nd Chance Friendly, please encourage them to join this directory. Completing the Google form takes just 5 minutes and can make a significant difference in our communities.

Your involvement will remain confidential, and the directory will be shared only with relevant executive leadership to maximize its impact.

Ready to Make a Difference?

Complete the form today and become part of a movement that changes lives.
